Janis Shier Peterson was listed in the December issue of the national magazine: SB & O: School Band and Orchestra in an article entitled "50 Directors Who Make A Difference." http://www.sbomagazine.com/8379/archives/december-2011/14th-annual-50-directors-who-make-a-difference/ The article features a band or orchestra director from each of the fifty states. Janis was chosen to represent Michigan.
On January 21st, 2012, Mrs. Peterson was presented with another prestigious award. Janis was selected as the String Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Chapter of American String Teachers Association.
Janis has been the orchestra director for Marquette Area Public Schools for the past 34 years and is concertmaster/co-founder of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra.
