Throughout the most recent three school years, Marquette Area Public Schools’ total expenditures have exceeded revenues.  For 2009-2010, budgeted expenditures of $28,870,672 are likely to exceed revenues by over 1.4 million dollars.  The district’s per-pupil General Fund Balance has decreased from $2,844 in 2003-2004 to a projected low of $1,014 in 2009-2010.  Like many other Michigan public schools, well over three-quarters of our expenses are associated with personnel.  To learn more about MAPS finances, you may wish to review Understanding District Finances within this website’s  Negotiations Update Quick Link (click the link at the end of this article).
