Marquette Area Public Schools announces Schools of Choice openings for non-residents in all grades for 1st semester 2012-13. Application forms may be obtained at any MAPS school building, at the Superintendent's office or downloaded from the window below. Completed application forms will be accepted through Friday, September 7, 2012. The district will make every effort to accommodate building preference at the elementary level, but retains the right to make the final building selection for student placement. Enrollment deadline for students accepted under the Schools of Choice program is Friday, September 7, 2012.
Students must reside within the Marquette-Alger RESA to be eligible for Schools of Choice at MAPS.
Helpful Information Regarding Non-Resident Schools of Choice
1. If you are downloading an application form from the window below, please make sure you select a form for the appropriate grade level. A separate form must be submitted for each child. For the elementary school level, be sure to indicate a second choice of building preference just in case there is not availability at your first choice building.
2. Be sure to indicate on the form whether your child has ever been suspended or expelled from school. A prior suspension or expulsion may result in a denial. Marquette Area Public Schools verifies this information with previous schools attended, and acceptance may be revoked if a prior suspension or expulsion was omitted from the application form.
3. Non-resident school of choice students who are admitted may attend Marquette Area Public Schools until they graduate, as long as they are a continuous student of the district. If they attend another district at any point, they will need to reapply if they wish to return to MAPS.
4. Transportation is the responsibility of the non-resident parent, guardian or student. However, a non-resident student may be transported to the nearest MAPS bus stop for pickup.
5. ATHLETCS: Please be aware that students who transfer by choice from one district to another and do not otherwise satisfy the transfer regulation are ineligible for interscholastic athletics for one full semester (Note: an incoming freshman who has never been enrolled at another high school is immediately eligible). Contact the high school athletic office at 225-4220 for more information.
