Strategic Planning

The world we leave to our children depends in large measure on the children we leave to our world.
-Federico Mayor, UNESCO Director-General

As communication and technology allow our world to be more closely connected, our students need to have the right tools to navigate this new world. They need essential skills to steer them toward acquiring a strong knowledge base, developing a mind-set for change and embracing values for an active and productive life.

To accomplish this for students in Marquette Area Public Schools, a Strategic Plan has been developed to guide the district in making sound decisions regarding student success. A group of citizens, teachers, support staff, students and administrators have formed to create the Strategic Planning Team. The team describes what the district is to become and has created guiding principles for the district in the form of a mission, beliefs, parameters, objectives and strategies.

The Strategic Plan contains two objectives which are targets the district will achieve to fulfill its mission. The objectives are (1) to have 100% of our students graduate and meet local requirements, and (2) MAPS students will rank in the top 5% in State performance assessments. When these objectives are achieved, we will have met very high standards of student success.

The Strategic Planning Team met on October 22, 2010.  They reviewed components of the strategic plan and then addressed the subject of parent involvment in the schools.  The session, led by consultant Garee Zellmer, created proposals for immediate, soon, and long-term implementation to involve parents in the district.  A follow-up spring meeting will be held to review progress to dated.

There are a few seats that need to be filled on the Strategic Planning Team.  If you are interested in becoming a contributing member to the team, please contact Tesse Sayen at tsayen@mapsnet.org or 225-5320.

As the world evolves, so will MAPS.  Strategic Planning is MAPS’ answer to facilitate our evolution.
