Graveraet Courtyard Renovation
(See photos below!)

In June of 2007, an active group of citizens formed to see what could be done to restore the Original Graveraet School fountain and Courtyard. The committee, made up of past Graveraet High School and Middle School Alumni, Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee members, Master Gardeners, community activists, local historians and community arborists have committed themselves to seeing the restoration of the original school fountains and courtyard through.  With the Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education approval, they quickly began to raise funds for the restoration project.

After three years of fundraising, over $100,000 has been raised by the greater Marquette Community and Graveraet Alumni.  On Thursday, August 12, 2010, the Board of Education approved to fund the remaining difference of the project (up to $48,266).  Work has begun on the fountains with a date of completion set for mid-May of 2011.  The L.G. Kaufman Foundation has offered a 2-1 match for any donations over the $75,000 mark and MAPS will continue taking donations throughout the spring of 2011.  Stone engraving and name recognition on the indoor plaque are still available.  Interested donors should call Community Education and Kaufman Auditorium Director Sara Cambensy at  (906) 225-4213 or 225-4210.
