Welcome to MSHS

Smaller Learning Communities

Minimize Student Activities

We’re glad to have you as a participating high school and we remind you that the deadline for submitting Fall 2011 Student Impact Surveys to earn money for your school is December 30.

  • As a "Green" Student Paths school, you can earn $1 for each fully completed* and submitted online Student Impact Survey

All of your 9-12 grade students are eligible to participate by filling out the survey after teacher-facilitated review of our Fall 2011 materials.

  • All Student Impact Surveys are due December 30 for your school to receive an awards check for participating in the Fall issue. The checks will be mailed in mid to late January.
  • Absolutely no student information is sold to third parties and students will only receive information from post-secondary options they request.

Marquette Senior High School received a five-year Smaller Learning Communities grant from the U.S. Department of Education (2007-2012). The initiative is to provide personalized learning environments in order to improve student achievement, increase graduation rates, and promote successful transitions for students throughout their high school journey and into post-secondary education.

The SLC grant was awarded to the Michigan SLC Consortium. The member schools are Marquette Senior High School, West and Central High Schools in Traverse City, Union and Creston High Schools in Grand Rapids and Muskegon High School.

Providing teacher and administrative leadership from MSHS for planning, design and implementation of the reform efforts  are high school teachers -- Chris Swadley, Matt Ludwig, Brad Nelson, Karen Bacula, Lisa Jahnke, Holly Warchock --  and Bob Anthony, Principal and Garee Zellmer, Project Facilitator.

MSHS redesign efforts are focused in three areas:

  1. Personalizing the School Environment
  2. Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
  3. Collaborative Leadership / Professional Learning Teams
