Welcome to our home page.  Our office is located within the high school, room 207.  Last year, we mailed newsletters to each family.  This year we are utilizing the school's technology.

Did you know...
Michigan is made up of three main tribes:  the Ojibway (aka Ojibwa, Ojibwe, Chippewa), the Ottawa (Odawa), and the Potawatomi.  Theses tribes are known as the Three Fires.

Project Director

Aanii!  I am fortunate to know many of our Native Families in this area because I grew up in Marquette and graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 1995. I also graduated from N.M.U. in 2004 with a bachelor's in Elementary Education. I  belong to the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. I have also worked for the Title VII Program since 2003 and enjoyed every minute.

I now live in Skandia with my husband, Aaron and daughter, Delana. At this time I would like to invite everybody to stop by our office or call me if you have any questions, concerns, or would just like to say, Aanii.

Aanii,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to students, parents and staff of the Marquette Senior High School.  My name is Lisa Brunk and I知 the Title VII Native American Head Tutor.  I知 Lac Vieux Desert Ojibwa and also Menominee.

I have been gifted with two beautiful boys, ages 14 and 11.  I知 also happily married and currently we live at K.I. Sawyer in Gwinn.  Currently, I知 a senior majoring in Social Work at N.M.U.  I also work at Great Lakes Recovery Treatment Center in the adolescent unit as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Addictions Counselor.

I enjoy attending pow- wows all across the U.P.  I like frybread and I am in search of good wild rice soup too.  I知 a jingle dress dancer and I also sing with the Four Thunders drum.   Although, I知 not fluent, I am familiar with Anishinaabemowin and also attend ceremonies to stay balanced.

I look forward with a positive, healthy attitude to begin working with the students here in the Marquette community.  Feel free to stop by and say hello, I壇 love to meet you!

Aanii Parents, Staff, and Students! I am very excited to begin working with all of you again. I hope to see everyone from last year and meet some new faces. If you have not met me I will be spending my time at MSHS and Bothwell this year. This is my second year with Title VII and I will be the Head Tutor. I have a Bachelor痴 in Secondary Education and am currently attending NMU as a graduate student in the Learning Disabilities program. I also have a 7-year-old daughter that I enjoy spending time with. She just started second grade at Vandenboom Elementary. I am looking forward to a great new year! Miigwech, Amanda

Kate Klamerus

Program Tutor

Aanii, this is my third year with the Native American program.I was a marketing professional in my past life and enjoyed it very much. I attended Kendall School of Design in Grand Rapids, MI.  I got married and moved back home to DeTour.  My husband and I raised three children, two sons and a daughter.  My daughter is the only one of my children that lives in this area.

While substituting for MAPS  I was asked if I would be interested in tutoring for the Native American Education Program. I love children so it was an easy decision.  Together we explored the new world of education.  I am happy to have the opportunity to share my abilities with the children and am looking forward to a great year!

Hello Students, Parents & Teachers:

Welcome back to the fresh and exciting 2005-2006  school year. This year is sure to be full of fascinating challenges and outstanding successes.  I am looking forward to working with those of you I had the pleasure of working with last year. I知 also excited about meeting even more of the families and staff who are involved with Title VII, Native American Studies during this year.

As a Title VII Tutor I have the opportunity to interact with learners in a meaningful, supportive and productive way.  As a retired teacher, this is very fulfilling and rewarding, it is something that I truly enjoy. Remember to enjoy each day and to welcome new learning experiences. Working as a team we can confidently approach and meet each educational challenge we encounter this year.
