There are two major benefits to achieving qualifying scores on the MEAP-HST:

First, the state of Michigan requires high school juniors and seniors, desiring to take partial-cost-paid college courses (called "dual enrollment"), to have taken all five MEAP-HSTs and achieved endorsement in the subject area(s) in which they would like to earn college credit.

The second benefit of achieving qualifying scores on the MEAP-HSTs is the Michigan Merit Award Scholarship Program. A one time $1,000/$2,500 out-of-state/in-state tuition scholarship is awarded for use at approved post-secondary educational institutions. To be eligible, a student must take the MEAP-HSTs in mathematics, reading, science, social studies and writing. Students who score at Level 1 (Exceeded Michigan Standards) or Level 2 (Met Michigan Standards) on these five tests and meet all other eligibility requirements will qualify to receive the award.

Sophomores/Juniors interested in taking dual enrolled courses at NMU during the first semester of their Junior/Senior Year must take all five MEAP tests during October, 2006 (this date is subject to change)Sophomores/Juniors considering dual enrollment for the second semester their Junior/Senior Year can wait until the April, 2007 (this date is subject to change) test dates. Sophomores and Juniors interested in taking the fall semester MEAPs need to submit a brief letter to his or her counselor, from a parent or guardian, requesting that their MSHS student "be allowed to take the MEAPs for the purpose of dual enrollment next year."  Cost: Free -> Sign Up in Guidance NOW!
