Welcome to the Shiras Planetarium Web Site. Within these pages you can find out more about us and learn about our current public shows, school shows, and private shows. Also, our site will link you to some of the area partners we have including the Marquette Astronomical Society and the U.P. May ~ Cowboy Astronomer Please no unattended children or unattended preschoolers due to noise concerns. Thanks! Doors open 15 minutes before program starts. Entrance Fees: $3.00 for Adults, $2.00 for Students, and Senior Citizens free.
—————————————————————————————— School Shows ~ Scheduled daily. The Shiras Planetarium is proud to offer the following two options for shows with visiting school groups. View this list of programs as a menu of possible shows. Simply pick which programs (yes, you can choose more than one!) you are most interested in and then bring in your classes for a fascinating experience. For scheduling purposes, please limit your selections to within a 45 minute to 1 hour time frame. Thank you, and I hope to see you at your friendly neighborhood planetarium soon!
Option 1 ~ Live Presentation These presentations can be on virtually any topic and can utilize any number of technologies in use at the planetarium. From our very popular introduction to the planetarium segment to demonstrating the size and scale of the Universe, we can do it all! It only takes our minds to pull it together for your students! Option 2 ~ Pre-Recorded Programs These are full dome, digital masterpieces that focus on a variety of specific topics. See the list below for many of our most popular offerings. Standard school shows are scheduled between Noon and 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday but other arrangements can also be pursued. Contact the director to make reservations or obtain further information.
—————————————————————————————— Private Shows The Shiras Planetarium is also open for rental of the theater space. Any of the shows listed above can be utilized in addition to other possibilities for birthday themes, special topics, etc. Private shows can be scheduled pending availability and director’s approval. Please note the planetarium has very limited after hours availability. Contact the director to make reservations or obtain further information.
