Last Day of School

Message from the Superintendent - Last Day of School
Posted on 05/12/2023
Dear MAPS Students and Families,

We received good news regarding the last day of school.  It will remain as scheduled.  Additional forgiven time has been approved by the state due to the State of Emergency only for days canceled after April 14, 2023.   After review of the days and clock hours, the last day of school will be as planned - Thursday, June 8th - which is a half day for all MAPS students, as scheduled.

As many of you well know, the record-setting snowstorm on May 1st and 2nd brought historic snow totals which are unusual for so late in the season, even in the Upper Peninsula.  The high winds, combined with the heavy snow, caused widespread power outages.  Even though we did all the legwork to utilize a virtual learning platform in the event of certain school closures, there was no way to predict this record-setting snowstorm in May nor plan for virtual learning without electricity.  In the future and under certain circumstances, we will continue considering virtual learning day(s) in lieu of traditional school closures.

We appreciate your support.  It is this support, along with our exemplary staff and students, that makes MAPS an outstanding school district.  Thank you!

Sincerely,

Zack Sedgwick, Superintendent
