Mask Order for Pre-K through Sixth Grade

Mask Order for Pre-K through Sixth Grade
Posted on 09/21/2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you to everyone who came to our Board of Education meeting last night to express their thoughts regarding the MAPS COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan.

As many of you already know, just prior to our BOE meeting the Marquette County Health Department issued a Mask Order for Pre-K through Sixth Grade effective this Thursday, September 23, 2021 which "requires that children in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade consistently and properly wear a facial mask covering both nose and mouth while inside any enclosed building or structure of the institution" remaining in effect until further notice.

The MAPS COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan remains fluid and flexible and continues to evolve based on the most recent data, recommendations and orders from public health officials such as the above-mentioned mask requirement, collaboration between local districts, and communications from families.  The following changes are included in the revised plan:

  1. A K-5 virtual option which our original plan indicated we wouldn’t offer.

  2. A requirement that students and staff wear a mask while riding on MAPS busses.

  3. A requirement that preK-6 students and staff providing service to those students wear a facial mask covering both nose and mouth while inside any enclosed building or structure of MAPS except for during meals.

In closing, I want to thank our families, staff and students for your continued support as we partner to provide the safest and most effective learning environment possible during this difficult time.  Furthermore, I wish to publicly acknowledge our Marquette County Health Department and their officials for making decisions which ensure consistency across Marquette County School Districts.

Sincerely,

Zack Sedgwick,

MAPS Interim Superintendent
