Message from the Superintendent - Staff Recognitions
Posted on 04/25/2023
Good morning everyone,

It is my pleasure to announce the MAPS Elementary Teacher of the Year, Secondary Teacher of the Year and Support Staff Person of the Year.  Congratulations to all who were recognized, and our appreciation to all who nominated a colleague for these awards.

Each awardee will receive $750, a plaque honoring this recognition, and their name permanently displayed on the MAPS website under “Teacher and Staff Recognition”.

Our Support Staff Person of The Year is Jerrod Hanson, the Head Custodian at Graveraet Elementary School.  One of his nominators wrote, “Jerrod Hanson makes a significant contribution to having Graveraet Elementary School ready for operations on a daily basis...His work and attention to detail make our classrooms, offices, cafeteria, hallways, and grounds safe and clean for our students, staff, and visitors...Jerrod is a very good spirited individual and a very positive person...He is a great role model for students and always puts a smile on their faces.  He is very approachable...He has a very positive effect on the overall quality of performance of our school...Jerrod's accomplishments are a reminder of someone who is willing to devote their time and energy to improve their work place with a positive attitude and deserves this nomination for Support Staff of the Year.  His dedication and commitment to our Graveraet school is commendable."

Our MAPS K-5 Teacher of The Year is Kirsti Brunet, a Kindergarten Teacher at Superior Hills Elementary School. Her nominators wrote, “Kirsti Bunet is an incredible teacher who, after serving for 22 years, is still such a passionate and excited educator.  She is incredibly kind, makes all of her students feel valued and safe, and knows how to help students grow into the best students they can be inside and outside of the classroom.  There are not enough words to explain how incredible Kirsti is as a mentor, a teacher, a faculty member, or as a friend.  Kirsti deserves to be honored for the hard work and dedication she has put into the teaching profession."

Our MAPS 6-12 Teacher of The Year is Steve Solinski, a Science Teacher at Marquette Senior High School. One of his nominators wrote, “Mr. Solinski is the best as both a teacher and a colleague.  He deserves the title for the way he brings a positive atmosphere to his classroom and to the entire High School, his helpful and humble way of motivating colleagues, and for his high standard for teaching in his classroom throughout his entire career...It is time he is recognized for his long list of contributions and accomplishments as a distinguished MAPS Educator."

Please join me in congratulating these outstanding MAPS professionals!  We will be honoring them, along with our retirees, at a special event, time/date to be determined.

On behalf of the Board of Education, MAPS administration, and our students and families, thank you for your dedication and commitment to educating our youth.

Sincerely,

Zack Sedgwick
