Our MAPS K-5 Teacher of The Year for 2024-2025 is Catherine Lehmann, a Speech-Language Pathologist at Cherry Creek Elementary School. Her colleagues wrote, “Catherine is both a wonderful speech-language pathologist and human being.  She can always be counted on to do her job well, often beyond what is expected, and to do it in a timely manner with grace.  She is a keystone in the Special Education department, and leader in the profession.  She works hard to both advocate for her students and to help them find the words to advocate for themselves.”  “Catherine has worked hard to learn new ways of communicating and teaching students.  For example, Catherine spends countless hours outside of her working day researching curriculum for students who are 100% deaf and who are learning ASL and the English language at the same time.  She has made various connections with leaders in the deaf community to provide families with learning and socialization opportunities outside of the classroom.”  “Catherine is able to build a rapport with students with the support they need in order to make progress.  Catherine is able to build a rapport with students quickly and does not hesitate to jump in and help when a student is having difficulty regulating their emotions.  Catherine brings a calming presence to a room.”  “Catherine’s work represents the heart and soul of what we strive to achieve every day.  Her impact extends far beyond her direct interactions with students and families; she is a model of excellence and compassion in everything she does.  Her professionalism, expertise, and caring nature make her an invaluable asset to our school community.  It is a privilege to work alongside someone who continuously goes above and beyond to support every student and family she encounters.”
